Over the last ten weeks the six of us have been fully immersed
in the Channel 4 way of life. Each of us have been placed in
departments across the channel and have gained a hands-on
insight into Channel 4 and the broadcast industry.
The Generation Next programme, run by 4Talent, has given us
the foundation for a career we all believe has only just started.
We have all embraced the fantastic opportunity we have been
given and are now excited to take the experience and relevant
skills with us as we start our career in media.
Schemes such as Generation Next are important for young
people and makes the media industry accessible to more
people. As we graduate, we are here to tell you about how
the scheme has helped us and how our internships have given
us the skills and confidence to build future careers in media.
Today isn’t the end of our program, it is only the beginning ...

4iP
I spent 10 weeks as part of Channel 4’s 4iP digital
commissioning team. While there I gained invaluable insight
into the inner workings of the commissioning process
and now feel that I have a sound understanding of what
makes a successful pitch versus one that’s unsuccessful.
This information will be invaluable for my future career
and attempts to get my graphic novels, books, or movies
published and I have Channel 4 to thank for that!
I sincerely want to give ‘mad props’ this company for giving
me an experience that’s been as educational as it has been
rewarding.

Legal and Compliance
I don’t think I can say this any better, but here goes…
my time at Channel 4 has been incredibly life changing.
Personally and professionally my life has changed.
My work as a Junior Compliance Viewer in the legal
and compliance department has included viewing and
supervising edits of various Channel 4, E4 and More4
programmes to ensure they are legal to air and comply
with OFCOM regulations.
I have learnt a huge amount and the experience I have
gained has give me the belief and skills to be a success in
any role I do in an industry I love.

T4 and 4Music
Generation Next has been a real eye opener into a world
which I didn’t realise was so huge. From working on location
filming, viewing programmes for legal and compliance
purposes to assisting the department with researching for
programmes and future projects, I have been fortunate
enough to experience a huge range of jobs.
The experience has only confirmed my determination and
enthusiasm to work within television. My hope now is to
work within productions, ideally as a researcher on a range
of programming.

Strategy
Over the past 10 weeks I’ve met and worked with
some incredibly amicable and intelligent people whose
enthusiasm for Channel 4 is infectious.
I could talk at length about the wealth of new skills I’ve
gained, from presenting to strategic thinking, but most
importantly I now feel prepared to focus on the career that
this experience has helped me to discover; advertising
planner and strategist. I can’t wait to see what the future
brings, Channel 4 was the best possible place to begin.

Future Media
I’ve loved my time at Channel 4 - it has been even better
than I hoped. I have always admired and loved what
Channel 4 stands for and I feel so lucky to have been part of
the Generation Next scheme.
The 10 weeks I spent working on the 4Beauty website gave
me the opportunity to learn through practical experience
and I know that this will be invaluable when it comes to the
next steps of my career. From my time here I now know
that I want to work in online content production and with
the skills I have learnt and amazing support from Channel 4
staff, I now feel that I can achieve this.

Events and Stakeholder relations
I have been working as part of the Events team for the last
10 weeks and the entire experience has been amazing.
During my time I have gained a valuable insight into
events management and Channel 4’s relationship with its
key stakeholders; including the government, charitable,
diversity and arts organisations.
My highlights include working at the screening of Another
Year, helping organise the CDN Comedy Night and
working on the Big Brother Press Conferences. I have also
learnt vital skills that I will be most certainly developing as I
stay with the department for the next six months.
