Corporate Legal: The Corporate Legal Department at C4 is responsible for negotiating and contracting deals for all non-programme related areas (so excluding Commissioning and Acquisitions) including Corporate, Commercial & Business Development, IT, Procurement, Corporate Services, Audience, Technology and Insight, 4 Creative and Strategy.
4Talent: 4Talent's role is to support people like you to build great futures in the media industry. People from different backgrounds and walks of life. People at different stages of their careers. People who want to be part of our evolving multi-platform business. This is an opportunity to support other people with career development as they enter the industry.
Advertising Research and Development: This team supports the Channel 4 sales team and uses research and data to support Channel 4’s commercial model. This is done through thought leadership research into key target audiences, proving advertising effectiveness, and advertising development and innovation.
Channel 4 News: Working with the team that makes Channel 4 News will involve shadowing some of the country’s journalism and technical experts. Like the news, no one day is the same and you can expect that to be your experience too. You’ll gain an understanding of the many different teams involved that make up Channel 4 News and the many more specialist roles this requires.
4Creative: 4Creative is the in-house creative and production resource for Channel 4. The team produces and directs programmes, trails, brand identities, title sequences, posters, press ads, and books online activity.Working across the core channel as well as More4, E4, Film4, and 4Music, they look for intelligent, original ideas that will have the most impact across all media. Their aim is to make the advertising as effective and as recognised as the shows themselves.
Audience Research: This team is responsible for providing research to support the commissioning, scheduling, marketing, corporate and press teams. They also analyse and report on the performance of All 4 as well as commission future facing projects to keep abreast of the latest developments and trends within the TV landscape.
Corporate Relations: Corporate Relations is part of the Marketing and Communications Department and is responsible for managing Channel 4’s internal and external relationships with key stakeholders. The team works across the organisation to communicate important messages to staff, run internal and external events and develop Channel 4’s position on key policy issues and then communicate this to external stakeholders like the Government, Ofcom and Members of the Houses of Commons and Lords.
Media Planning: The Media Planning department manage the on-air programme trailers for all 4Network marketing campaigns. We are responsible for the on air campaign planning, implementation and analysis.
Sales: The team responsible for generating revenue for the Channel, this includes selling airtime to brands, sponsorship deals, commercial development and digital campaigns. 4Sales' is an industry leading team with a reputation for innovative, creative solutions including holistic brand partnerships working with Channel 4 talent and programme brands – and access to Channel 4's unique audience insight and first party viewer data.
Press and Publicity: Press & Publicity are responsible for generating and shaping coverage of Channel 4 content, talent, corporate reputation, corporate initiatives, partnerships, executives and commercial performance by all external media, but chiefly the press.
Marketing: The marketing department takes overall responsibility for promoting Channel 4's programmes and channel brands (including each of the digital channels). They oversee every element of the marketing campaigns for the shows, which includes on-air trails, posters/press ad campaigns, digital and online marketing, events, competitions and brand partnerships. It's the Marketing team's job to raise awareness of Channel 4's programming content and maintain the Channel's brand profile.
Online: All 4 is responsible for the quality and coherence of the experience that viewers have of Channel 4 on the internet. This includes both online content and the products in which the content is located (eg All 4)
iOS: The All 4 iOS development team builds, tests and maintains the All 4 app on iOS - here is a link to the app on the Apple AppStore https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/4od/id432494037?mt=8 A work experience placement with the iOS team would involve joining our test team and contributing to the testing of forthcoming new features. Please already be familiar with the live app on iOS!
Film 4: Film4 is Channel 4 Television’s feature film division. Film4 develops and co-finances films and is known for working with the most distinctive and innovative talent in the UK, whether new or established. If you are successful on this scheme, you will not be making films or be working in production/ behind the camera. You will be in the office with the team reading through scripts and learning about development.
Channel Management: Channel Management is responsible for the scheduling of each of the family of channels including CH4, E4, M4, Film4 and 4Seven. Each channel has a dedicated Channel Manager supported by a scheduler who work closely with the Chief Creative Officer and commissioners to ensure the delivery of programmes to the schedule within budget
Continuity: The Continuity team at Channel 4 works across its five channel brands - Channel 4, E4, More 4 Film 4 and 4seven and inputs into All 4. We’re a key part of the Marketing department, tasked with extending the reach of trail campaigns, delivering continuity-only promotion and voicing content advice for the Legal team. We deliver live and recorded continuity all day every day. Continuity announcers write their own scripts and work solo for much of their on-air time so a lot of trust is placed in them.
Indie Growth Fund: The C4 Indie Growth Fund invests in independent production companies helping them grow to their potential. The main work for the growth fund team is split between researching and meeting new companies looking for investment and managing our current investments.
Content Management: This department is responsible for supporting content delivery across the portfolio: linear, non-linear and listings services. They support live/special events (both editorial and commercial), platform/content launches and the management of access services. The department is business critical and needs to meet the changing business demands.
Acquisitions: The Acquisitions team source content and maintain relationships with the TV market, as well as negotiating and managing the acquisition of the best international TV to supplement our commissions across the portfolio of Channel 4 channels.
Data Science: This team was created to develop new products and services that drive either commercial innovation or creative innovation. Commercial Products focus on how we work with Ad Sales and Technology teams to create new data products that change the way we sell advertising on Channel4. Creative Innovation focusses on how we work with Marketing, Product and Commissioning teams to create new data products that deliver incremental viewing. From better user experience to improving viewer navigation on All4. The team is responsible for developing the ideas and rolling out the changes across the business.
Finance: The Finance team are responsible for money coming in and going out of the channel. Including Channel 4's commissions and investments into new and exciting programmes and production companies. They keep an eye on departmental budgets to ensure they do not over spend, as well as making sure all employees get paid on time!
Drama: Channel 4 Drama aims to be the most bold, innovative drama commissioning department in the UK. Taking on work from emerging and established writers, they commission new and returning drama series, and work with the top independent production companies to create shows you wouldn’t see anywhere else on TV. Working across the core channel as well as E4 and All4, they're committed to developing the most entertaining, intelligent drama on television.
Commercial Affairs: The Commercial Affairs Department brings together Channel 4’s professional support services covering Legal & Business Affairs, Production Finance, Rights and Corporate Legal.The Legal & Business Affairs and Production Finance teams within Commercial Affairs are responsible for the negotiation and the contractual and financial aspects of all developments, commissions and licensed programmes across the portfolio, as well as Channel 4’s on-line activities. We work closely with the commissioning teams and a wide range of external production companies and agencies to ensure that the best deal is agreed for the content.
