The Channel 4 Investigative Journalism Training Scheme
We understand that the success of investigative television journalism depends on breaking down barriers and developing people to be the best that they can be.
What is the scheme?
The Channel 4 Investigative Journalism Training Scheme will offer bespoke training to twenty people on a 6 to 12 month contract over a two year period, to help nurture the next generation of television journalists.
Dispatches our award winning investigative current affairs programme wants to increase its pool of talent to ensure greater diversity of supply to provide fresh new ideas, angles and stories. Crucially, as well as training in the fundamentals, our scheme will train journalists for a converged world, ensuring they know how best to utilise and interact with new technology and social media.
Who are we looking for?
We want people with a burning desire to make the highest quality journalism. The scheme will be open to researchers and assistant producers in television with at least 2 years’ experience who are ready to move on to the next stage of their career, and to junior producers who are new to producing. You can work in consumer-related features, factual programming or current affairs, but you must have a passion for journalism in some form. We will also be open to journalists outside television, either in the newspaper, radio or online worlds, who have demonstrated strong journalistic ability and commitment, and feel that they are ready to move into television. Positions will be available in London, Manchester and Glasgow.
What will the scheme will involve?
This is on-the-job training which will involve developing ideas for, and working on films for the Dispatches strand. It will be a mixture of mentoring, workshops, and trouble-shooting.
At this stage up to six applicants will be chosen to work in one of the following companies:

Channel 4 prides itself on the wide range of people we employ. Not only does this reflect our audience more accurately, it also promotes the variety of creative thinking and programming that has made us what we are today. It's only by attracting people from the widest possible backgrounds with the most diverse range of attitudes, opinions and beliefs that we can keep producing the kind of challenging, engaging output you've come to expect from us.
In everything we do, we seek to respect people for who they are, not what they are. Regardless of culture, nationality, religious persuasion, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, race or age both on and off screen. We judge people only for the way they do their jobs and for what they can contribute.
