Inspiration Week Activities

During the Easter holidays, Channel 4 opened its doors to 120 young people as part of 4Talent's Inspiration Week. We partnered up with The Guardian, Pinewood Studios, BAFTA and Microsoft to deliver a truly inspiring experience to help these 14-19 year olds understand different roles within the media industry through a series of master classes and workshops in disciplines such as Advertising, Journalism and Scriptwriting. Through Inspiration Week we showed these young people the skills and experiences they needed to progress - as well as innovative ways to focus and strengthen their own career prospects.

During Inspiration Week in one of the New Media workshops, the young people were given the opportunity to design a game. Currently the game is in full production, involving the young people in both the design and testing stages whilst they are in contact with Creative North who are facilitating this experience. The young people started the game from concept stage, choosing to develop a fun but informative game on the topic of obesity.

Those who had chosen to do master classes and workshops in Journalism were invited to attend a panel session with 3 respected journalists, chaired by Tim Samuels. Samira Ahmed (C4 News), Matt Roper (The Mirror) and Geraldine Cooper (ITN ON) took to the stage where they discussed different types of journalism, how to target your audience and to answer any questions the young people had about choosing this career path. On the second day, the young people then went to The Guardian to take part in a newsroom simulation. Using state of the art technology and continual news feeds, the young people took on the role of reporter, researching, writing and editing news to produce their very own front page of a newspaper.
