Ever thought that you could be cut out for a career in the media industry? Here's your first step – a ten week paid internship with Channel 4.
We want people with the talent and ability to succeed in what can be a very demanding business. So your background, age and qualifications aren't as important as your potential. What we'll be looking for, most of all, is a real passion and determination to make it in this exciting industry.
The Generation Next Programme offers an in-depth internship for seven individuals here at Channel 4. There's the chance to really get inside the business and find out how it works – and develop some of the skills needed to build a career in the media arena. Beyond that though, we want to nurture new talent, alternative voices and fresh perspectives. To challenge people to see the world differently.
In terms of innovation, the UK leads the world. But we can only stay in this position if we attract, encourage and inspire new talent. If we give people the space to explore, develop and grow. That's the essence of this programme.
At Channel 4, we aim to make trouble, inspire change and do things first. So that'll give you some idea of the qualities we're looking for. Creative, buzzing with new ideas and prepared to take risks – you get the idea. When it comes to the nuts-and-bolts of actually making programmes though, we leave it to the talented people who do that kind of thing best - independent production companies and digital agencies.
Well, we can't explain everything that'll happen in ten weeks right now, otherwise we'll be here all day. Let's just say that you'll get to know Channel 4 and one of its key departments, as well as getting stuck in to your own project. Make no mistake, you'll be carrying out a real role in your department. Doing real work. You must be prepared to put a lot into this. Then again, you'll get plenty out of it. So if you're you the kind of person who's prepared to muck in with whatever needs doing, we want to hear from you.
That's very much down to you. But armed with the knowledge, insights and skills you will have developed with us, you'll be in the perfect position to plan your future career.
Applications for our Generation Next Internship scheme will open in April 2010.
We take you into the newsroom, bring you masterclasses with the professionals and tools to edit your own stories.
