You just know you've got what it takes to be a series producer. A future creative leader. So spend one or two days a month developing the skills, knowledge and contacts you need.

Leading Edge is a new high-level initiative that aims to provide network producers with the creative, editorial, managerial and leadership skills required of a successful Series Producer.

Run in in conjunction with partners The Research Centre (TRC) and Skillset, the programme recognises an industry shortage of series producers and is designed to run over nine months, comprising a combination of monthly training sessions, workshops, commissioner shadowing, group work and broadcaster networking events. One-to-one support and mentoring will underpin the professional development of the participants.

How much commitment is required?

Leading Edge will require the successful candidates to commit to sessions lasting two consecutive days per month, plus an additional week for shadowing of Channel 4 Commissioners.

It has been devised on a part-time basis to allow participants to continue full-time work on creative projects for the 9 months of the scheme. A maximum of 12 experienced network producers will be selected to take part.

Who can apply?

The programme will be open to freelance producers with significant and substantial programme making experience and a network track record. Producers working in the factual, factual entertainment and current affairs genres will be targeted as this is where the skills shortage is most acute.

What else do I get?

In addition to the monthly sessions, each producer will be afforded the opportunity of shadowing a Channel 4 Commissioner for a week. This offer by Channel 4 will give delegates exclusive access to the broadcaster, providing insight and perspective into the Commissioner's role and work and building critical relationships, promising a unique learning opportunity.

Leading Edge will not be running in 2009 please check back later in the year for info on the 2010 scheme.
